Who We Are
World T.E.A.M. Sports is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization chartered in North Carolina and headquartered in Holbrook, New York. Since 1993, World T.E.A.M. Sports has organized all kinds of athletic events for disabled and able bodied citizens – mountain climbing, white water rafting, biking, and more. Support comes primarily from individual and corporate donations and sponsorships.
Our events include our annual Face of America ride with injured veterans from the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia to the historic battlefields of Gettysburg; our Adventure Team Challenge team events in western Colorado, New York and Washington D.C.; our Military Initiative mountaineering and winter sports expeditions; and our Coastal Team Challenge sea kayak adventures. Past events include the AXA World Ride, the Vietnam Challenge, our climbs of Kilimanjaro, the Mountain Madness in North Carolina, the Italian Dolomite Trek, and numerous clinics and training events for disabled and able-bodied persons.
Our Mission Statement
For more than 20 years, World T.E.A.M. Sports has used athletics to challenge disabled men, women and children to accomplish goals they never thought possible. In all our events – whether mountain climbing, biking, white water rafting and many other sports – we include both disabled and able-bodied participants.
Four things always happen at our events:
- Disabled participants build self-confidence and physical fitness
- The disabled provide a role model for other disabled citizens, encouraging them to take up physical activities.
- The disabled become a moving inspiration to other participants and to spectators when they see that disabled individuals can meet challenges beyond anyone’s imagination.
- The disabled and able-bodied participants learn to work as a team to overcome those challenges.
